MAPAS at 50!
MAPAS 50th Anniversary
MAPAS have been organising a year of celebration since September 2016, because this year was our 50th birthday!
Launched in 1966 originally as Salford Music Service to provide music tuition for schools across Salford, those humble beginnings have now grown into a much-loved city-wide service accessed by around 3000 children every week. The organisation also runs evening Arts Centres that include a range of activities for children and adults including learning to play instruments, choir singing and acting.
To celebrate MAPAS’ golden anniversary, we organised a range of special music and singing events across the city featuring past and present MAPAS service users, some very special alumni and exciting guest performers.
MAPAS @ 50 Festival
On Saturday 15 July we celebrated our golden anniversary with a special 12 hour live music festival at Ordsall Hall, the city’s famous Tudor mansion.
Musicians of all ages from 6 – 76 performed throughout the day in ensembles and choirs ranging from string orchestras to rock bands. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience performances of everything from Mozart to Motorhead.
