Cliff Richards, MarkmakersInterval 1.1 by Markmakers

Sunday 11 February to Sunday 13 May 2018

As a group of artists, 'Markmakers' come together to explore common themes through each artist's individual contemporary art practice. Over the past year their theme has been interval. What is an interval? Is it just blank space? Is there anything of interest in the gaps?

In our modern days of frantic action perhaps the interval has come to be seen as a negative thing, a place where nothing happens. Markmakers present their work at Ordsall Hall and invite you to take an interval. Explore the unexpected, read the artists statements, sit, stand, look and listen. Have a break, take an interval.

The exhibition will include new work directly inspired by Ordsall Hall with some interventions in other areas of the hall.

The Welcome - Briton RiviereRoyal Academy Takeover

Sunday 20 May to Sunday 7 October 2018

This year Ordsall Hall and Salford Museum & Art Gallery are bringing the Royal Academy to Salford to help celebrate their 250th anniversary.

Founded in 1768, The Royal Academy of Arts exists to promote art and artists. Led by world leading practicing artists and architects, they do this through exhibitions including their annual summer show, education and debate. Royal Academicians are voted in by their peers and make up some of the greatest names in painting, printmaking, sculpture and architecture.

Did you know that we hold many magnificent works by Royal Academicians in Salford's collections? Some of which have not been on public display for a number of years.

'The Royal Academy Takeover: The Exhibition' will pick out the hidden gems from the collections, complemented by loans from other institutions. You will be able to see household names including L.S Lowry, David Hockney and Edward Burne-Jones, while we introduce you to some lesser known Royal Academicians from the collections. The exhibition, over both our venues, unites traditional landscape and portraiture with modern art; includes war artists from World War II; and show prints, drawings and sculpture.

Please note the Royal Academy Takeover exhibition at Salford Museum & Art Gallery will be on display from Saturday 30 June 2018 to Sunday 24 February 2019. Find out more.

Also look out for...

'The Royal Academy Highlight Trail' will pick out Royal Academicians featured in our permanent exhibitions at Salford Museum & Art Gallery, including paintings in the Victorian Gallery and ceramics in the Pilkington's Lancastrian Pottery exhibition.

Available June-December 2018.
