Bequests and legacies have played a vital role in Salford’s Museums.

Dating back as far as 1874 when Edward Langworthy, former Mayor of Salford and early supporter of Salford Museum & Art Gallery, died and left £10,000 to the museum. This gift was used to build the west wing of the museum, which shaped its development to the present day and which still bears the name Langworthy.

We rely on funding from a wide range of sources and welcome support from generous individuals. By leaving a gift in your will, no matter what size, you can help us:

  • Maintain and transform our historic buildings and surroundings
  • Save collection pieces in need of rescue
  • Deliver innovative outreach and learning programmes
  • Support special exhibitions

So that we can carry on nurturing creativity and inspiring potential.

Your legacy gift will ensure that future visitors, young and old, will continue to recognise, value and enjoy Salford’s heritage. Making a will is one of the most positive things you can do. It offers peace of mind, securing the future of your loved ones and the things that you care about. We know it’s a big decision, but after you have provided for your family and friends, you might also like to remember us in your will.

You may want to donate to our collection if you have an object or painting you want to give to the museum or art gallery collections. We are especially interested in materials that are unique to the geographical area of the city of Salford

Or maybe you want to remember a loved one? When someone close to you dies, a gift in their memory can mean a great deal.  A gift to Ordsall Hall or Salford Museum and Art Gallery might be a special way of remembering someone who was particularly fond of us during their lifetime.  A gift may take the form of a dedicated donation, or you might ask for donations instead of flowers at a funeral.  If you are preparing your will, you may also express a wish for donations to be made in-lieu of flowers.

Everyone can play a part. Legacies come in all shapes and sizes. Any gift, no matter how large or small, makes a lasting difference. You do not need to have lots of money to donate – all legacies are welcome and can be put to good use, be it £50 or £1 million. Rest assured that whatever gift you leave will be used wisely and effectively.

We welcome gifts that can be used for general funds to enable us to meet our most urgent needs, however we are also very happy to accept gifts for a particular use. That means you can choose where and what your money is spent on, a favourite piece perhaps, or an area of special significance to you or your family. We are always extremely grateful to receive legacy gifts. Unless anonymity is requested, we acknowledge all legacy gifts in our Annual Report.

We are not able to give legal advice and so we recommend that you consult your solicitor to help you write or update your will. They are best placed to advise you and will need information about us:

  • Name: Salford Community Leisure Limited
  • Address: Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford, M27 5DA.
  • Charitable status reference: XR71610

Whether you’re making a will for the first time or changing an existing one, it’s easier than you might think. If you would like to remember us in your will, we would be happy to talk to you, in confidence. For more information contact us.
