Kayaking and Canoeing


Exploring the waters by kayak or canoe is a great way to relax and unwind and Salford Quays provides the ideal location to do this.  Our boat stores are packed with a huge range of kayaks and canoes of all shapes and sizes.

The Centre is a BCU (British Canoe Union) approved training centre.  We offer courses from beginner level through to advanced for both adults and children.  We can even arrange trips along local canals if there are a few of you wanting to travel further afield.

Canoeing offers something for everyone. Once you have mastered the basics, there are so many different routes you can take such as touring, sprint racing, white water paddling, sea kayaking and play boating.

Canoe Club

Canoe Club takes place on Thursday evenings from 6.00-8.00pm where qualified instructors will teach and coach kayaking and canoeing skills, aiming to develop each individual to be the best paddler they can be! Find out more.

Learn to Kayak and Canoe (Juniors)

The British Canoe Union (BCU) Paddle Power scheme is ideal for those youngsters keen to get out on the water paddling.  This course follows levels 2 - 5 of the BCU Paddle Power Passport scheme. Candidates will be given a Paddle Power logbook to have the various sections ticked off. On the course you will work through the various levels of each award learning new skills whilst having bags of fun.

Improver Kayak and Canoe (Juniors)

This course builds upon and polishes off the skills learnt on the Paddle Power Passport course as well as introducing new techniques and ideas. The Paddle Power Discovery award covers levels 6 to 9 of the Paddle Power scheme.  Participants must have completed their Paddle Power Passport.

BCU 1 Star Award (Adults)

The BCU 1 star is a one day course and is a clear stepping stone to becoming a paddler. A gentle introduction to paddlesport, this course covers the fundamental skills and concepts needed to kayak or canoe.

BCU 2 Star Award (Adults)

The BCU 2 Star is a weekend course and is a stepping stone to make you a proficient paddler. Once you have your 2 star award, you can then look at taking part in coaching awards.

SUP Courses

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a 1 day course and is a fast and fun experience. This course is designed to give you the ability to get onto the water safely, have fun and learn the basic techniques of paddleboarding on flat water.
