The sheltered waters of Salford Quays provide the ideal sailing waters for learning the basics of Sailing and Windsurfing.  Our modern equipment and first class instructors will make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

The Centre is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) recognised training centre.  We offer courses for both adults and children. Our modern fleet of boats include; Laser Picos, Laser Stratos, RS Fevas, Topper Taz and Oppies. 

On our windsurfing courses we use boards from Bic and Hi fly.  We have a host of modern and lightweight windsurf rigs from Tushingham, Tiki and Hi Fly.

For adults we offer sailing courses in either single handed dinghies or crewed dinghies. Each option will give you a different sailing experience but you will follow the same syllabus in your course.

Junior courses are predominantly run in single handed dinghies such as Oppies, Topper Taz's and Laser Picos.  However you may get the chance to sail some of our crewed dinghies on the more advanced courses.

Adult Sailing - RYA Start Sailing Level 1

This course provides a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to sailing in safe conditions. By the end of the course you should be able to confidently sail a dinghy under supervision. Boats used on this course are Laser Picos or Laser Stratos.

Adult Sailing - RYA Basic Skills Level 2

Learn more about dinghies and how to deal with a challenging variety of sailing conditions. Learn about the five essentials and basic seamanship skills required to start gaining the skills required to sail a dinghy independently. It is a pre-requisite that candidates must have completed a level 1 course.

Adult Sailing - RYA Better Sailing Level 3

This exciting course builds upon the skills learnt at level 2 and aims to make the sailor a safety conscious sailor, capable of looking after the boat themselves - the next step to becoming an independent sailor.  On this course candidates will get the opportunity to sail both single handed and double handed boats. It is a pre-requisite that candidates must have completed a level 2 course.

Adult Windsurfing - RYA Start Windsurfing

Here at Salford Quays we can offer you the ideal learning environment for the exciting sport of windsurfing. This course is suitable for absolute beginners and those who have already tried the sport. By the end of the course you should be able to steer around a course and sail the board confidently.

Junior Sailing - RYA Stage 1

By the end of the course you will have had a basic introduction to dinghy sailing and hopefully the desire to continue and learn more about the sport, but most importantly you will have had lots of fun! Once you have completed this course, why not join our junior sailing club which meets on a weekly basis?

Junior Sailing - RYA Stage 2

This course builds on skills acquired during stage one. Learn more about dinghies and how to deal with a challenging variety of sailing conditions. You will also experience the thrills and spills of capsizing, an insight to racing as well as playing lots of games.

Junior Windsurfing - RYA Stage 1

You can come and learn to Windsurf in the school holidays and we promise you will have bags fun.  Your instructor will teach you the basics to get you moving around on a board, as well as playing lots of games and making sure you get very wet!  Once completed you can join our very successful junior sailing club.
