Tour of Britain Family Challenge

29th August 2019

Cycling Tour of Britain comes to Salford during Salford's Big Day Out on Saturday 14 September.

Fancy an extra special gym challenge? To celebrate cycling's Tour of Britain passing through Salford on 14 September, our gym challenge is one of the whole family to complete and enjoy.

This September we are challenging members to complete a 20km challenge and design a flag to wave at cyclists when they pass by Salford's Big Day Out.

As a family you need to cycle, swim, run or row 20km in our gyms, complete a challenge card and then design a flag to bring to Salford's Big Day Out and wave and cheer on the cyclists as they whizz past. You'll then be in with a chance of winning a £100 bike voucher.

Once you've finished your 20km and had your challenge record card signed by a member of staff, bring it along to the SCL stand at the event at Salford Civic Centre along with your flag to be entered into our special prize draw.

The cyclists are scheduled to ride past between 2.45pm and 3.15pm. Make sure you get there early, come and see us at our stand, drop off your record card and grab yourself a great place to watch the race.

The jam-packed Big Day Out event run by Salford City Council, takes place every year and is free entry and free parking. This year the event is from 11am-4pm.

Enjoy a magical day out on the lawns filled with family fun, delicious good, entertainment, live music and wonderful local delights! This year's Big Day Out promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The OBO Energy Cycling Tour of Britain makes a return to Greater Manchester for the first time in 15 years and will be zooming past in the afternoon. So come on down and cheer the racers on!

This year you can visit stalls from RHS Bridgewater, the Salford Red Devils, the BBC Philharmonic, the Bridgewater Canal, the Ydalir Vikings re-enactment society and a vintage Salford double decker bus plus much more.

Families can take park in free craft workshops and there will also be children's entertainers, birds of prey, big vehicles and other activities to keep the whole family busy. There's no need to buy tickets; just come on down!

Here's more information about this month's gym challenge.
